"We had the honer to be one of the first visiters of 'Gîte the Lombard'. We loved the place and we certainly go back. It's located in the heart of Ypres so walking distance to all the nice things Ypres has to offer. The Gite lays in a quiet street what makes the stay very relaxing and peacefull. The owners live next door and are very nice and helpfull people. The Gite itself is a beautifull house that was just finished from a total renovation. So everything in the house is new. The furnishing is done with a good taste. The use of well placed decorations and the design gives the Gite a trendy look. In short, highly recommended for everyone who loves to stay in a trendy environment close to all the culture of Ypres.".Fam. Engels-Lambot
"We stayed with our family, inclusief young kids at Gite early August and had a great time. The house is well-decorated with a sense for design, located at walking distance of the centre. It is also near to the city walls from which you can enjoy a nice walk to the Menenpoort. The owners are really friendly. Perfect home for your stay in Ypres.".
"Fantastic, more than we could have hoped for - great apartment, great location, great hosts.
The equipment provided to self cater was brilliant, lots of utensils and even some basics like kitchen foil and olive oil are there for your convenience. The furnishings are high quality too so you felt at home.
Having never visited Belgium before we opted for Ieper by chance and what a lucky choice, it's a lovely place with lots to do. We used the train during our stay (which was very reasonably priced) which gave us a break from driving. When the car was not used it stayed parked in the Lombardsraat overnight or the free all day car park only 3 minutes walk away.
I could say more but honestly just go and experience it yourself, you won't be disappointed.".
"Great pick!Burke W.
The house is lovely, and Sven is great! The owners live next door, and are super nice and cooperative.
The house has a terrific location and is a short walk to stores, historic sites, rampart and park walks, and the "Last Post" at Menen Gate. The WWI sites and museums are a short drive away. It is even a short drive to Westvelteren and the famous monks" beer.
Parking is on the street, but was never a problem.
I highly recommend this property and the owners.".
"Excellen locationKay W. (United Kingdom)
Great location, spotlessly clean with a lovely terrace to sit outside when weather permits. Sven is very professional and gives good information about the surrounding areas and leaves a helpful file with you for reference. There is a flight of stairs to access the house which is on the first and second floor, this was not problematic to us; however needs to be taken into account for anyone with limited mobility. We would definitely stay here again.".
"Beautiful apartment in great location with excellent facilities and comfortable beds. Thanks SvenSharon J.
We were a family group aged from 23 to 76 and we all enjoyed staying at this beautiful apartment which had everything one could possibly need for an enjoyable stay in the wonderful city of Ypres. Excellent location within a few minutes walk to the main square and the Menin gate. Also a great base to visit military cemeteries in Flanders fields.".

The apartment is perfectly situated to explore ypres and the flanders area. The apartment is well equipped and the balcony was great to relax on an evening. Sven was really helpful with advice on where to go and what was worth seeing. We will definitely be back.".
"Lovely home in the heart of YpresDave S.
Beautifully finished and equipped house in a quiet street only five minutes walk from the Cloth Hall. Ideal for exploring the Flanders WW1 sites but equally good for just chilling out and enjoying the Belgian food and drink.
Sven was a helpful, friendly host who made sure we had everything we needed.".
- Discover World War 1 in the Ypres Town -
The Menin Gate Memorial to the Missing is a war memorial in Ypres, Belgium dedicated to the British and Commonwealth soldiers who were killed in the Ypres Salient of World War I and whose graves are unknown. The memorial is located at the eastern exit of the town and marks the starting point for one of the main roads out of the town that led Allied soldiers to the front line. Designed by Sir Reginald Blomfield and built and maintained by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission, the Menin Gate Memorial was unveiled on 24 July 1927.
discoverFollowing the Menin Gate Memorial opening in 1927, the citizens of Ypres wanted to express their gratitude towards those who had given their lives for Belgium's freedom. As such, every evening at 20:00, buglers from the local fire brigade close the road which passes under the memorial and sound the "Last Post".
